Frank Sawyer's nymph, brought up to date with a tungsten bead. The pheasant-tail fibres give the exact translucent brown of a swimming mayfly nymph, and the copper rib both segments the body and adds the weight that gets it down. Tungsten sinks roughly twice as fast as brass for the same size head, so this is the version you want when the fish are holding deep or the current is quick. The anchor fly on a two-nymph rig.
