Al Troth's caddis, and the most buoyant standard dry fly there is — hollow elk hair floats the fly through water that would drown a hackled mayfly pattern. The palmered body hackle lets it be skated and twitched across the surface, which is exactly how a caddis behaves and something no mayfly imitation should ever do. The evening fly on almost any river.
